The Role of Lice Clinics in Supporting Local Communities: A Case Study

The Role of Lice Clinics in Supporting Local Communities: A Case Study

Did you know that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that between 6 and 12 million children between the ages of 3 and 11 become infested with lice in the United States? Or that, on average, 24 million school days are missed across America due to lice infestations? Because the statistics are so high, it’s clear that protecting children from developing severe cases of lice should be a priority in most schools, daycares, and other similar settings. But what’s the right way to go about creating a lice-free community? That’s where local lice clinics step in.

At Fresh Heads Lice Removal, we offer professional lice removal treatments and education on prevention methods and provide a safe and clean environment for families to receive the necessary treatment. By offering these services, our lice clinics help to reduce the spread of head lice, which is particularly important for schools, where outbreaks can be common and disruptive.

Here’s a glimpse at our Schools Without Lice Program, which was started to help the communities around our clinics eliminate head lice from schools. It’s an exclusive partnership for school nurses, teachers, and administration.

Educating families on lice prevention

Our education curriculum for parents and other adults includes information on the life cycle of lice, the signs and symptoms of infestation, and the proper ways to identify and treat it. By educating families on these topics, we believe we can help prevent the spread of lice infestations in communities.

Lice clinics like Fresh Heads Lice Removal can also offer practical tips on preventing lice infestations, such as avoiding head-to-head contact and sharing personal items like combs, brushes, and hats. Knowing how to properly clean and treat your homes and belongings in case of a lice infestation is also important in lice prevention. By taking a proactive approach to lice prevention, families can minimize the risk of infestation and reduce the likelihood of reinfestation in the future.

Whether we’re in the community or providing individualized lice treatment for families, our staff thoroughly explains the treatment and prevention process. Because talking about lice is such a taboo topic, it’s normal to be lost when treating it. We’re always happy to answer any questions.

Providing resources for nurses and health professionals

As trained medical professionals, school nurses are equipped to diagnose and treat lice infestations promptly and effectively. They can guide the proper use of lice treatments and offer support and education to families on lice prevention and management. School nurses can also work with teachers and administrators to help prevent the spread of lice in schools, such as by promoting good hygiene practices and identifying and treating infestations early. By providing prompt and effective treatment, school nurses can help prevent the spread of lice in schools and promote the health and well-being of children.

We offer free educational resources for your school, which are great to hand out to parents or kids to help them learn fun facts and helpful tips about identifying and dealing with lice.

Creating a Safer Community

Fresh Heads Lice Removal is a company dedicated to creating a safer community by providing effective and easy lice treatment. Our services have been designed to relieve kids and their families suffering from lice infestations, and we use safe and effective methods to eliminate the problem. By offering these quick treatments, we can help prevent lice spread, which can be a serious health concern. By creating a safer community, we’re also helping to improve the overall well-being of individuals and families.

However, we understand that not all families have access to the lice treatment they need. We offer free expert head lice screenings and treatments to families in need so no one has to deal with an uncomfortable lice infestation.

We also know that we can’t create a safer community alone. Giving back to other local organizations that support families in need and community development is important to us and crucial to truly making an impact. Since 2013, we have donated over $100,000 in charitable contributions to various community organizations. Learn more about our philanthropic efforts on our website.

Four Facts About Lice You Might Not Know

Four Facts About Lice You Might Not Know

Catching lice is no laughing matter, and it can become very stressful at times. Knowing how to check for lice and knowing facts about lice can be extremely useful. It is important to be aware and educated on how to get rid of lice. The secret is all in the treatment you use. Most treatments can be ineffective, especially over-the-counter products. Below are some facts you might not be familiar with when it comes to these bothersome pests.

Hair Management

A common theme for lice is that they do not discriminate. Lice do not care whether your hair is dirty or clean. They also do not care about the length, type, or style of your hair. To lice, these factors do not matter as long as they are able to stay on the scalp and lay their eggs.

Can Lice Live Off of The Scalp?

Lice can not live off the scalp and are only able to survive by being on your scalp and feeding off of your blood. For this reason, you do not have to live in fear of these little bugs returning to haunt you. You do not need to fumigate your home or worry about lice spreading if they are not on a host. The only way lice can spread is through head-to-head contact.

One Out of Four Kids Get Lice

In a lifetime it is estimated that one out of four kids will get lice. This is just to show how common head lice are. Although lice can be a very scary matter, there’s people like us at Fresh Heads who are here to help guide you through it.

How Do Lice Spread?

Head lice can only spread via head-to-head contact. This is the reason why lice are prominent in kids. Kids are often out playing and might be more careless when it comes to making contact with a friend. Checking for lice and informing them of facts about lice can help prevent lice in the long run.

Can You Go Swimming After Lice Treatment?

Can You Go Swimming After Lice Treatment?

Summertime is a time for relaxation and having fun, and in some situations escaping the heat. Before you go to that pool party you might want to check to see if you have lice, and if you do you might want to wait to jump in that pool. Some chemicals and toxins might help kill lice, but chlorine is not one of them.

Lice vs Chemicals

Over time, over-the-counter products have become weaker on lice, most likely due to adaptation of the lice. Even chlorine, which is somewhat acidic, does very little harm to lice nowadays. Some of the chemicals in these products that could kill these lice and nits can be extremely harmful to your hair and scalp. Also, many of these products might be able to kill lice, but not the eggs they lay. So after a few days, the problem is still there, and if you are to use the same methods again then you are in a terrible cycle.

Swimming After Lice Treatments

If you are using some kind of home or over-the-counter method then enjoying a day on the water after the treatment might become an issue. It is recommended that you wait 48 hours after treatment to enjoy the pool or any other kind of water. This is because over-the-counter products have become less effective over time, and the chlorine affects the other chemicals that you might have put on your head. The chemicals you might be putting on your head could cause a bad reaction with chlorine.

However, avoiding these issues can be very simple. You can come on down to Fresh Heads Lice Removal for the best lice treatment money can buy. We also do not use dangerous chemicals like those over-the-counter products. With our patented AirAlle treatment, we use heated air to kill head lice and nits. This method has over a 99% success rate and is also extremely safe and easy. A major plus is that you can go swimming right after, so do not let lice get in the way of your summer plans!

Dangerous Chemicals in Over-the-Counter Lice Products

Dangerous Chemicals in Over-the-Counter Lice Products

Many people will try over-the-counter products first to treat head lice but these products aren’t always effective or safe for you to use. When looking at at-home methods, a common question is “Can alcohol kill lice?” The simple answer is to not risk it but we’ll get into the reasons why below. Professional lice removal clinics, like Fresh Heads Lice Removal, have the best lice treatment due to our proven success.

Can Alcohol Kill Lice?

Rubbing alcohol is very common in households and readily available. Many people will ask “Can alcohol kill lice?”. The answer to that question is complicated because it can, but is not very effective. You would have to keep reapplying for at least a week to ensure you got all the head lice and repetitive use isn’t good for a person’s hair or scalp. So while it could possibly work, it is not recommended.

Over-The-Counter Issues

Many over-the-counter products you can get from an average grocery store or drugstore most likely have chemicals in them that should not be used on the scalp. Several over-the-counter products have a chemical known as permethrin in them.

Permethrin is a pesticide just like the one people put in their yards. Pesticides are not meant to go in or be on anyone’s body. Depending on the formula, Permethrin is more non-toxic, but on semi-rare occasions, it can cause many short-term side effects. Some examples of the side effects are irritation to the eyes, nose, mouth, throat, and skin. Permethrin has several neurotoxic properties that leave questions amongst experts as to why it should even be allowed on children’s heads to begin with. It is better to not risk it with one of the more dangerous chemicals for lice.

Another chemical in many over-the-counter products is Malathion. Malathion is actually even worse than Permethrin. Malathion has been linked to seizures and other health problems like cancer. Some other side effects include headaches, nausea, dizziness, weakness, cramps, diarrhea, excessive sweating, blurred vision, and increased heart rate. Just like with Permethrin, this is one of the more dangerous chemicals found in over-the-counter treatments for lice that we highly discourage anyone to use.

Nits VS Lice; What are the Main Differences Between the Two?

Nits VS Lice; What are the Main Differences Between the Two?

You keep seeing the word “nits”, but you are not sure what it is or what it has to do with lice? It’s simple, nits are the lice eggs produced by the lice, while lice is the actual bug that is making your head itch. Lice are very common and nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s estimated that 6 to 12 million people every year get lice. At Fresh Heads Lice Removal in Jacksonville, we are dedicated to solving this frequent issue.

What are Lice Nits?

Female lice can lay 6 to 8 eggs a day. As you could imagine, that can lead to lots of lice over the course of a few days. Their eggs are typically white in color, very small, and oval shaped. You can find them close to the scalp, but they’ll be attached to individual pieces of hair. A good way to decipher if it’s lice nits or dandruff is that dandruff will easily come out of the hair and is not hard or oval shaped. Lice nits do not come off the hair easily and can be seen with the naked eye.

What Do Lice Look Like?

Lice are the six-legged, wingless bug you are seeing crawling around on your scalp. They tend to be dark in color but can be lighter.  They are very small, but can still be seen with the naked eye. If you see one, chances are you’ll be able to find others.

How To Know You Have Head Lice?

A good way to tell if you have lice or not is to evaluate your level of itchiness on your scalp, neck, or shoulders. The itchiness can become unbearable at some points and can disrupt your everyday life. Another good way to see if you have lice is if you see nits. The lice nits will be on individual pieces of hair and close to the scalp. These nits will be white and oval-shaped, and will not come out of your hair so easily.
